Beware of the Myths about Marketing
Many design professionals misunderstand and even misuse marketing.
That’s a key theme of my presentation at Neocon this week.
The program, entitled “Market Smart: Make a Big Splash for Little Cash,” is scheduled for 11 a.m.- noon this Wed., June 13 at Neocon in Chicago.
Too many interior design pros fail to get results and business from their promotional efforts.
Why?
Because they believe the “Myths” about Marketing.
The myths are many, but here are six of the most common:
1/ Marketing is expensive. Some of the best costs the least. You can do million dollar marketing on a shoestring budget.
2/ Marketing takes lots of time. Baloney. You can do powerful promotion in less than 45:00 a day.
3/ Your service sells itself. Yeah, right. You can’t sell your design services in these competitive time until your sell yourself.
4/ Website portfolios are paramount. Problem is, everyone has pretty pictures. Now also you need a killer bio (“About Us”) section and a home page that spells out your “Only” brand.
5/ Going solo is sufficient. Marketing has become a numbers game. The best way to win it is to team up with vendors, suppliers, and allied professionals.
6./Social media make you money. LinkedIN, Twitter, Facebook and the others can get you contacts and connections. But clients? Don’t hold your breath.
